Chula is a drama about a young African woman living with bipolar disorder in the Washington D.C. area, played by Ethiopian-American actress Selamawit Worku. The film touches upon her upbringing and subsequent rise to fame which is tainted by her mental illness and a strict father; One whose inability to distinguish between discipline and emotional abuse leaves scars that follow Chula into adulthood. To cope with the stress of her illness and rising fame, Chula begins to abuse drugs and alcohol. Chula's relationships, including her relationship with her boyfriend (played by Nigerian actor Obum Ezekwem) suffers, culminating in Chula losing all that she values most; yet in the end, a glimmer of hope is found.

Ledet Muleta is the Writer and Producer of the film Chula. Ledet is also the founder and director of Medixaa Health Services. Ledet has been working in the field of Behavioral Health for the past 13 years. Her passion in mental health and psychology stems from the rich experiences she has had as a a psychiatric nurse. Ledet received her Bachelor’s degree from University of Cincinnati and her Masters in Public Health from University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Since 2014, Medixaa's goal has been to assist in reducing the stigma that mental illness and mental health carry in order to educate the public and support those suffering from this medical condition. MHS works with minority groups to further assist bridging the gap of mental health treatment disparities.
